Commissions
A PERSONALIZED APPROACH TO CREATING CUSTOM ART
I love doing commission work because it is personal and tells a story. I have found that custom artwork adds an increased level of warmth and invitation to your home. They are conversation starters centering around your core values. This is true of pet portraits, customized abstract pieces and calligraphy quotes.
Prices are based upon the size and level of detail. Typically, prices are 20% more than completed originals, given the time involved to accommodate your needs. Shipping is charged separately.
GENERAL OVERVIEW OF COMMISSION PROCESS
1. Planning // I will review request a selection of photos for the painting and will consult on which photograph would serve as the best “source photo” for the painting. Along with the photos, I have a personal discussion with the collector to understand his/her favorite aspects of the picture that you would like to highlight in the painting.
2 Portrait Drawing // My first step is to draw the portrait (to scale) on the canvas. I will send you a photo of the drawing once it's completed for you to review and approve.
3. Painting Progress // The painting itself is an iterative process. I typically do not send photos during this stage as the painting evolves significantly throughout the process.
4. Client Approval // Once the painting is completed, I will send several photos (close up and far away) for final approval.
FAQ
1. International Shipping // I do not work with clients internationally at this time.
2. Is framing provided? // I currently do not provide framing on paintings. Typically, I will paint the sides as if they were a continuation of the painting. However, as a courtesy, if requested, I do offer to paint the sides of the painting in a solid color. Additionally, a complimentary option of hanging a wire on the back of the painting is provided if requested. This is a good option if you do not plan to frame the painting right away, and is a safer option for hanging the painting to prevent the bones of the canvas from warping over time.
3. Timing // While it generally takes 4 to 6 weeks for the painting to be completed, completion time frame is based upon my current volume of orders. A timing estimate will be provided during the Planning phase.
4. Payment Plans // For commissions, I request full payment upfront.
